Thinking about window tinting but not sure what actually happens once you call? This guide walks through a typical job with Platinum Tint Solutions, from the first onsite visit to the day the film is on your glass, with realistic timeframes for homes and commercial buildings across Sydney.
Step 1: Free onsite measure and assessment
Every job starts with a free, no-obligation visit. We come to your home or workplace, look at the windows, talk through what you want to fix (heat, glare, privacy, fading or security) and take accurate measurements.
This visit matters more than most people expect. The direction your windows face, the size of the glass and the type of glass all change which film is right. For example, double-glazed and Low-E glass need films that are approved for those glass types, so we check the glass before recommending anything.
Step 2: Choosing the right film
Once we know the goal, we narrow the options down to a few films that suit your space. We install premium films from 3M and LLumar, including:
- Solar films to cut heat, glare and UV, ideal for large windows, sliding doors and sun-exposed glazing.
- Privacy films for daytime privacy on street-facing windows, bathrooms and meeting rooms, without blocking natural light.
- Climate control films that reflect heat in summer and help hold warmth in winter.
- Frosted and decorative films for partitions, bathrooms and feature glass.
- Safety and security films that help hold glass together if it breaks.
If you’re tinting a house, our home window tinting page explains which films work best for living areas, bedrooms and street-facing rooms. For offices, shops and other workplaces, see commercial window tinting for the films we use on larger glazing and glass partitions.
Step 3: A clear quote
After the visit you receive a clear, competitive quote with no hidden costs. The price depends on the glass area, the film you choose and how easy the windows are to reach. Once you approve it, we book in a date with our installation team.
Step 4: Installation day
On the day, our installers prepare and clean each window, cut the film to size and apply it to the glass. The edges are trimmed neatly so the finish looks clean from inside and out.
How long does it take?
- Homes: a typical residential job takes around 4 to 6 hours, depending on how many windows are being done.
- Commercial buildings: most commercial installations are finished within one to two business days, depending on the scope. We work to keep disruption to your business to a minimum and can do after-hours work where required.
Larger or more complex sites, such as high-rise offices or buildings with a lot of glazing, are planned out in advance so you know the schedule before work starts.
Step 5: Walkthrough and aftercare
When the job is done, we walk you through the result and give you simple aftercare tips. A few things are normal in the first days and weeks after installation:
- Window film needs time to cure. You may notice a slight haze or small water pockets at first. These usually clear on their own as the film dries, which is faster in warm weather.
- Avoid cleaning the tinted side of the glass until the film has fully cured, then use a soft cloth and a gentle, non-abrasive cleaner.
- Don’t pick at the edges of the film while it settles.
Our films are backed by manufacturer warranties, so if anything doesn’t look right, just let us know.
Do I need approval before tinting?
If you’re in an apartment, townhouse or commercial building managed by strata or a building manager, it’s worth checking whether approval is needed before tinting, particularly for windows visible from the street. On commercial jobs we work with strata and building managers to make sure the film meets their requirements.
